Peter Prosser Hairdressing in Hereford was founded by husband and wife team, Peter and Tracey Prosser, at the dawn of the new Millennium Following three decades of significant local salon success, Peter’s creativity and highly acclaimed standards were qualities automatically associated with the Prosser name.
Cut to the present and ten years of development sees Peter Prosser boasting three characterful and hugely successful Hereford city centre salons – a brand flourishing like mad, courtesy of hairdressing excellence and unfailing customer care, delivered by a 54-strong team of creative and dedicated professionals.
Peter Prosser Hairdressing is consistent in its aim to achieve the best possible customer experience in delightful salon environments. The two salons in Church Street – the ladies salon nestles up to the men’s salon – offer complete hairdressing services which are as fashionable as they are personal.
The classically chic interior of the ladies salon at 6/7 Church Street is complemented by the strikingly eclectic period details of the newly styled men’s salon (originally a Victorian tobacconist) next door. Both salons are consistent by providing a comfortably stylish environment, where excellent standards of service and professionalism are at the core of the company’s philosophy.
The super high-tech Commercial Road salon doubles up as a full-on hairdressing school for the early part of the week, providing government approved training in the purpose built salon which was launched in 2004.
An important landmark for Peter Prosser, it facilitates internal staff training and offers year 11 pupils, college students and enthusiastic learners the opportunity to study hairdressing and achieve recognised qualifications – National Vocational Qualifications in hairdressing in Levels 1, 2 and 3.
“The training salon is a fundamental part of our business,” explains Peter. “It aims to enlighten, inspire and stimulate students during an intense, engaging, challenging programme that promises to get the very best out of each and every student.”
Such is the quality of Peter Prosser training, it won local Chamber of Commerce awards for Excellence in People Development and Apprenticeship Employer of the Year. “It was wonderful to gain such recognition,” says Peter. “A real testament to everyone’s efforts to make our apprenticeship scheme so successful.
“Our passion is to train and nurture staff. I was an apprentice hairdresser over 40 years ago and training isn’t just about equipping someone for a job; it’s also about giving young people the skills they need to eventually run their own business.”
Peter Prosser staff are a mixture of professionals from far and wide who’ve come to work for the company, while the majority of the team members have been trained at the school. Whichever route, each individual presents the highest standards with specific emphasis on customer service, individuality and creativity.
“And to ensure our team is on-trend and knowledgeable about every latest technique, we provide training days with external industry professionals so clients are assured of always receiving the best possible service,” says Peter.
Having begun hairdressing in 1965, and significantly influenced by the iconic Vidal Sassoon, Peter frequently visited London to attend seminars and bring cutting edge trends back to his roots in Herefordshire.
Little has changed in his dedicated attitude towards British hairdressing, which has been rewarded with several award successes, his Midlands Hairdresser of the Year success at the British Hairdressing Awards in 2004 perhaps representing his most coveted trophy.
The company’s organic growth reflects Peter and his wife Tracey’s determination, innovation and dedication to provide salons of exceptional standards. Working on the salon floor five days a week and looking after an average 12 clients a day, Peter spends a great deal of time with his loyal clientele, as well as training his staff.
His vision remains unchanged: to ensure clients experience the best possible treatment and leave feeling fabulous, while promoting the future of British hairdressing through training of distinction.
Nominated this year for two coveted hair trade accolades – British Hairdressing Awards Midlands Hairdresser of the Year and British Hairdressing Business Awards Training Category, Peter Prosser salons present hairdressing excellence with an affordable price tag.
In each of the three salons, hairdressing professionals are only too pleased to share their hair expertise and give hair care product and styling advice from their Wella Professionals, Sebastian and ghd straightener range.
